Commemorating Houghton-le-Spring’s star of stage and screen, a special screening will take place of the 1948 movie “No Orchids for Miss Blandish” starring Linden Travers, the great granddaughter of George Wheatley, founder of the famous sweet shops in Houghton.

Houghton-born Linden starred in many popular films and stage shows throughout her career and worked with many well known names including George Formby and Alfred Hitchcock. As the lead in “No Orchids for Miss Blandish”, Linden was well rehearsed as she had appeared in the stage show of the same name in 1942.

This is your chance to see Linden in her starring role as Miss Blandish in this British gangster movie which shocked cinema goers upon its original release!

In true 1940s style, screenings of short Houghton-le-Spring documentaries and vintage cartoons will take place before the main feature and the National Anthem will play at the conclusion.

Tickets are available from Zazz Theatre or the Dance & Theatre Boutique, both on Newbottle Street, costing £3.00 each. The Zazz Theatre is a 120 seat venue in the heart of Houghton-le-Spring. It has a licensed bar and refreshments, including popcorn, will be available. Free parking to the rear on Station Road.
